You’ve lived here your entire life and have never heard of a steak bomb??? Neither did we, but it’s a thing. Everyday at New Hampshire Hot Air Balloons, we find out something new and amazing about the area. As we have several locations and service most, if not all of the state there has been a lot to take in and many places to scout for good landing spots and flight trajectories. This has allowed us to come across some pretty cool places that you can’t always find on a map. Let us introduce you to a few of them:
Purgatory Falls: While flying in a hot air balloon you will pass over many lakes and forests that all contribute to New Hampshire’s gorgeous scenery. One such place we have visited is Mt. Vernon. After making our landing there and asking about what cool places we could visit, we were told of an old folk tale about the Devil and his fated “cook out” along the falls the Souhegan River. This tale tells of the Devil inviting several predominant figures of the area to a cookout along these falls which ended in the burning of the beans he was said to be cooking and the melting of the ground around them by hell fire, eventually trapping the beast. Hiking to this specific section does take a small amount of effort but it was worth it to see where the Devil’s foot was supposedly trapped in molten rock.
Clark’s Trading Post: One of the best places to see from thousands of feet in the air is North New Hampshire, especially during Fall. One of the things we have learned in servicing this area is that trees here come in every color imaginable and from a hot air balloon, you can see exactly how they come together to weave a beautifully gorgeous tapestry beneath you. One place we have visited on one of our personal excursions over the state is Clark’s. This trading post serves as a small town tourist attraction exciting people who come there with a Bear Show featuring trained black bears and even steam train rides. This is all good and fun, but our favorite thing about this super cool area is not something you can see but someone. The Wolfman of New England is a resident here, often clad in furs and riding a rundown reconstructed tractor, he chases many a tourist aboard the train shouting indiscernible things.
The Witch’s Grave: Everyone has heard of the Salem witch trials, but did you know New Hampshire only had one resident accused of witchcraft? In 1656 Eunice “Goody” Cole was convicted of witchcraft, stripped of her citizenship and served her time in prison before being released to the other Hampton residents for her care at the age of 80. When she died it is said that her heart was pierced with a stake and a horseshoe was attached to prevent her spirit for doing any wrong after her death. Her gravestone was re-erected after it’s original was destroyed during a large storm on what is said to have been her property. It is said that the apparition of an old woman still can be spotted in this area at night.
Frankenstein Cliff: One of the most majestic scenic spots in New Hampshire and often seen on the horizon of one of our flights is Frankenstein Cliff of the gorgeous White Mountain Range. It’s name is not to be confused with the mad scientist who created the murderous monster in Mary Shelley’s novel. Instead this oddly named peak was deemed so after the landscape painter Godfrey Frankenstein who used these peaks in many of his works of art.
When travelling by balloon you will find yourself thousands of feet in the air, but unlike flying in an airplane the amazing scenery surrounding you does not look like the tiny patchwork you see at that great altitude. Instead, the incredible New Hampshire wilderness surrounds you. As each flight is different and we cover many areas in our excursions based on wind direction, you may find yourself over one of NH’s sparkling lakes or over some of her treetops and mountain ranges. No matter what area you pass over we guarantee this flight to be the most amazing journey you have ever experienced.
BECAUSE RIDING IN A HOT AIR BALLOON IS SO DISTINCT FROM OTHER OPTIONS OF FLIGHT TODAY, IT WILL BE UNLIKE EVERY OTHER ADVENTURE YOU CAN HAVE IN THE SKY.
Hot air balloon rides take place at two times of day, dawn and dusk. Both scheduled times of day assure that it won't be excessively heated and it's hard not to enjoy a view like that. For the night owls in the world, the rides at sunset usually occur two or three hours before dusk.
AS YOU ARE ARE RAISED INTO THE AIR, YOUR CRAFT IS ONE WITH THE WIND.
The moment you are up in the air you will find yourself anywhere somewhere between 500 and 3,000 feet above the ground. Occasionally, if the weather is perfect, your pilot may bring you up as high as 10.000 feet. Now should you find yourself wondering, balloons don't truly follow a distinct path. Generally your balloon will wind up travelling somewhere between 2 and 5 miles over the course of about an hour.
This trip is just about you, so you can only expect the best from us. Our pilots are specialists, guaranteed. Every single accredited pilot with New Hampshire Balloon Rides is a professional verified by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The very first account of man reaching the sky was in a balloon. From the very first ride in the 1700's, hot air balloons have stood the test of time.
Though the times have absolutely adapted, hot air balloons are still a straightforward endeavour. A gigantic, multicolored balloon is overhead, containing air warmed by burners.
Just like there are all sorts of explanations for hot air ballooning, the balloons are available in all sizes and shapes. Depending upon size, a hot air balloon can hold as much as 16 people. Numbers of 4, 8, 10, and 12 people are the most prevalent however.
As the balloons themselves are raised using hot air, it's good to know how that functions. The reason you get to enjoy a relaxing and fantastic view from up above is because cold air is denser than hot. Filling a balloon with hot air hoists it right up through the cooler air up into the sky. Just like that, you're hovering on air.READ MORE
